Executive Instructor
Paul Allen is the Executive Instructor of the Project Executive Group, a Houston-based
global professional services and training firm providing services to owners and contractors
alike. He has over thirty years in project development, project management & structured
financing experience since '75, and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
He is a co-founding officer of the PMI Risk Management SIG; co-founder and Chair of
the PMI Automation Systems SIG; and a member of the PMI Troubled Project SIG and PMI
Houston chapter. He has served as the Project Management Professional (PMP) Exam Prep
Risk Management instructor for PMI Houston for over eight years.
Paul served as an adjunct full professor of management at the Jones Graduate School
of Management - Rice University from 1997 - 2008 and now offers courses world-wide.
During his tenure he taught the Strategic Project Development Program, Advanced
Project Management Program (Professional Development in Executive Education),
project management, structured finance, decision analysis, and corporate renewal &
restructuring (in the MBA and Executive MBA Programs).
Capt. Allen served on the adjunct faculty of Texas A&M University at Galveston, Texas,
from 1984 to 1997. He taught senior-level elective maritime courses: advanced cargo,
shipbrokering & chartering, marine insurance, seaport operations, and inland waterways.
He served on the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy faculty as an Assistance Professor
teaching senior midshipmen, Class of '78, advanced cargo - LNG and tanker operations.
Awards include Award of Merit from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE),
Texas Section, 1996; Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award from the ASCE,
Houston Branch, 1996; Global Project Development and Finance Award from the Project
Finance Monthly Editorial Board, for The Most Innovative Infrastructure Financing, 1995;
and the coveted Outstanding Professional Achievement Award from the U.S. Merchant
Marine Academy Alumni Association, 1994, selected by his peers for work in automation.
