Advanced Project Management Program (APM)
Jones Graduate School of Management's Executive Education, Rice University, 1998 - 2008

This program has ten three-hour sessions and one four-hour workshop. One can attend any or all of the
sessions
. This program, started in 1998 at the request of Eric Jenett - co-founder of PMI and PMP #1, was
a collaboration of the Jones Graduate School of Management at Rice University and the PMI Houston
Chapter - program created and taught by Prof. Paul Allen, PMP #45522. Paul has thirty years experience
in project development, project management, and structured project finance. Retired from faculty in 2008.

The Program provides advanced project management training to PMPs and non-PMPs, and delivers the
required classroom hours for renewal of the PMP credential. Courses require five hours of preparation and
three hours of classroom interaction. Each session earns a PMI Completion Certificate for 8 hours of
training and 3 PDUs by the PMI Process Industry Focus Group. This is very useful for meeting continuing
education for P.E.'s. We offer P.E. Participants one-hour ethics training annually at no charge.

In addition, the program presents the advanced skills necessary to professionally manage large, complex
projects to small, technically-oriented and time-sensitive projects with a business mindset and focus.
There is heavy emphasis on when and how to use the tools and techniques of project management, group
evaluation and discussion of case studies, lessons learned, and proactive failure prevention.

Participants will gain a comprehensive appreciation and full understanding of the importance of
systematically planning, developing, and controlling a project, understand project financing, enhance
funding skills, improve decision-making and leadership skills, and learn advanced skills in project
execution.
